Week commencing 23rd March
- Use PPT Lesson 3 and work through all of the tasks. You will need to read the extracts 15th of June to 22nd June to complete the work.
- Read the Selected extracts and then complete the Linking to context task sheet. (Use the answer sheet to check your answers).
- Read the news article about Anne Frank and then complete the homework task on the last slide of Lesson 3 PPT – write your own news article.

- Work through the full PowerPoint and complete all of the tasks.

- Work through PowerPoints 6 and 7 completing all of the tasks.
- Read the Writing to Describe Help sheet and use the advice to help you write a description of the annex. Make sure that you use the features outlined in the help sheet and that you use a wide range of vocabulary.

- Complete the tasks on lesson 8. Write your own descriptive piece about life during an air raid.
- Complete the tasks on lesson 9. Explore the ways Anne Frank conveys emotions in the extract.

1. Use the PowerPoint and follow the instructions. Make a diagram of Tommo and his relationships with other characters. Find quotes from the text to add to your diagram.
2.Complete the vocabulary task then read the chapter openings sheet and complete the task on slide 3.
3. Read the rest of chapter 4 and then use the PPT to help you write a news article about the yellow plane.

You will need to open the PowerPoint from the resources button and you will also need the Private Peaceful text that you have been using.
Read chapter 6 and think about how the writer creates tension. Using the example, write 3 PEA paragraphs of your own.
Imagine you are Molly, Charlie or Mother. Write a diary account of the day that Big Joe went missing.
Extension - Write the story of Big Joe’s disappearance, from Big Joe’s point of view.
Week commencing 22nd June
Read chapter 7. Pick out the persuasive techniques from the sergeant’s speech. Write your own persuasive speech.
Read chapter 8 and the information about the trenches. Then read the poem ‘Suicide in the Trenches’. Using the example, write three PEA paragraphs of your own about the soldier.
Week commencing 29th June
- Complete the wordsearch about the context of Private Peaceful.
- Use the PowerPoint to look at recruitment posters from WW1 and design your own recruitment poster. You can do this on paper and colour it or on computer. Use the examples in the PPT for ideas.
- Read the poem Dulce Et Decorum Est and complete the annotation task. Then write up your analysis using the same approach a when we studied the poetry from other cultures in school.
- Complete the note taking tasks on the book so far using the booklet that I have included in the resources section. Then, write up the notes as paragraphs using evidence from the text and P.E.A.
Week commencing 6th July
- Complete activities on slides 1-2 then read chapter 9.
- Annotate slide 4 to show the ways the writer creates tension. If you can’t print it off, make a list instead.
- Write 3 PEA paragraphs as per the example on slide 5.
- Use the next slides to help you write a war poem.
- Complete the activities on slides 7 and 8 and read chapter 10.
- Complete the table on the comparison sheet or use slide 11 and complete the comparison on there. Then do the 1 minute spoken summary (see slide 12)
Week commencing 13th July
- Complete the vocabulary activity on slide 1.
- Read chapter 11. Collect quotations and make notes on their effects. Use slide 4 to help you organise your notes.
- Write 3 PEA paragraphs as per the examples on slide 5.
- Answer the questions on slide 6.
- Complete the vocabulary activity on slide 7 then read chapter 12.
- Complete the analysis activity on slide 9.
- Use the planning sheet to write the report detailed on slide 11 and 12 to help you write a report about Sergeant Hanley.
- Read chapter 13.
- Extension work - Write a review of the whole novel. Or, create a story board of the novel showing the key events.
