- Use PPT 2 – Write an account of what life would be like in the 1800s. Create a mind map of the history of the Slave Trade using Slides 8-14

Week commencing 30th March
- Use the Lesson 3 PPT. Read the information on slides 6-8. Then read the testimony from Mary Prince to answer the questions on slide 12. Write a letter as Mary Prince to your family (slide 13).
- Use the Lesson 3 PPT from slide 14. Answer the questions on the resistance to slavery. Then select one of the homework tasks from slide 15 to complete.
- Use the Lesson 4 PPT. Use slides 1-13 to makes notes on the Underground Railroad. Complete the PEA task on slide 16. (The text needed is on slide 14-15).
Week commencing 20th April
- Use the ‘L5 Civil Rights’ PPT. Complete the activities on slides 1-12 about the Jim Crow Laws.
- Use the ‘L5 Civil Rights’ PPT. Complete the research homework task on slide 13.
- Use the ‘L6 Civil Rights’ PPT. Complete the activities on The Little Rock 9 on slides 1-11. There is a youtube link on slide 10 and a word document to help you.
Week commencing 27th April
- Use the ‘L6 Civil Rights’ PPT. Complete the activities on slides 13 & 14 to consolidate your knowledge of the civil rights movement.
- Use the ‘L7 Civil Rights’ PPT. Complete the activities on slides 1-11 including reading the extract on slides 7-9 in order to complete the PEA activity on slide 11.
- Use the ‘L7 Civil Rights’ PPT. Write the letter using slide 12 and complete the research task on slide 13.
Week commencing 4th May
- Use the ‘L8 Civil Rights’ PPT. Complete the activities on slides 1-11 which includes reading the word document titled ‘L8 Emmett Till story’.

- Use PPT 3 to complete the following: Complete the acrostic using words you associate with Bruno, then match the key words to their definitions. Write down your thoughts on the question posed on Slide 6 – why might people discriminate? Complete the Thinking Task, then read up to the end of Chapter Four. Answer the questions on Slide 8.
- Use PPT 3 – Using Slide 9, complete a Mind Map to show your knowledge of World War Two. Watch the BBC Film on the historical context of the novel. Write down what you think the two symbols on Slide 12 might represent. Watch the video clip on the following slide, then summarise the knowledge it has given you in a series of paragraphs.
- Use PPT 3 – Slides 14 and 15 show propaganda images of the time – study them and write a detailed study of each. What do you think the message of these images could be? Create a storyboard of images and text to highlight key information from Slide 16. Feel free to search online for examples of storyboards used by filmmakers. Use these as inspiration for your work. Research historical context using the links on Slide 17.
- Complete the Homework Task on the final slide. You should present the findings of your research in as interesting a way as possible. Be creative and different; you can put your research into a PowerPoint, or another way that you believe will work.
Week commencing 15th June
- Use PPT 4 to complete the following: Write down 5 things you know about World War 2 and 3 things you know about the Holocaust. Match the key words to their definitions. Write a series of images you would like to ask about the image on slide 6. Read up to the end of Chapter 5.
- Use PPT 4 – What is your impression of Bruno’s father? Use your own words, and words and phrases from the text, to describe him. How does the author present the character of Father in Chapter Five? Highlight and annotate the extract. Answer the question using PEA, including quotations from the text to support your answer. Use Slide 9 on wards to help you. Complete the Extension Questions.
- Use PPT 4 – Write down what you can see on the picture on Slide 18. Match the key words to their definitions. Complete the Infer & Deduce tasks. What can you deduce about Maria? Use PEA to give your answer. Complete the Extension Questions.
Week commencing 22nd June
- Use PPT 5 to complete the following: Complete the table of events. Match the key words to their definitions. Read the 5 Key Points discussing the role of women in Nazi Germany. Using this information, discuss how these points would be viewed today. How do you feel today about the treatment of women at this time? Read up to the end of Chapter Seven
- Use PPT 5: Read up to the end of Chapter Eight. Using Slide Nine, write Bruno’s letter to his Grandmother Answer the Extension Questions in full detail
- Use PPT 5: Complete the ‘Pick A Number’ quiz questions. Match the key words to their definitions. Read Chapters Nine and Ten. Hot Seating – write a series of questions that you would like to ask Bruno, Shmuel, Father and Mother. Use the examples to help you. In character, write the answers you think the characters would give to the questions you’ve written.

Read Chapter 11 and Chapter 12. Write down how you think the two chapters contrast.

Write down two truths and a lie about Bruno. See if you can find someone to read these to – and see if they can guess the lie.

Write a short story titled The Truth. Base it around the idea of honesty, and use the story to highlight why telling the truth is so important. You could base it on Bruno’s story, and try and copy the style of the writer from what we have read so far.
