Preparation for GCSE
Speaking questions & Kerboodle
Next steps after GCSE German : GCSE A-Level
If you have chosen the exciting opportunity to pursue A Level German, you will be aware that only a limited number of providers will be offering the German A Level course.
Further to the topic areas, knowledge and skills acquired during your GCSE studies you will be immersing yourself in the culture of German speaking countries. This will include the Arts, literature, film, history, popular culture, social issues, current events and political developments amongst other wide ranging aspects of German culture.
At A level there are 3 examinations:
Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing.
Paper 2: Writing (Essays based on literary texts and/or a film.)
Paper 3: Speaking: Oral exam: 21–23 minutes
The expectation is that you continue to build on your existing grammar and vocabulary knowledge, and this would be your very next step: ensure you recall all the grammar, verb conjugations through the tenses and the vocab learnt. You can do this now, using your own resources & online learning tools, and ask the German department for help and guidance if needed. German A Level is currently not being offered by JLC.
Entry requirements vary, but QEHS requires a GCSE grade 6 or above. Get in touch with the German department and ask questions !

Under the Resources tab of Kerboodle, students should also use the Vocab Builder, Grammar exercises (Green book for foundation and Red book for higher).
- Use Seneca Learning to revise independently and/or as directed by class teacher.
- Quizlet.com – Revise “AQA GCSE German vocab” (also search for foundation/ higher).
- Students to check Google Classroom and/or school emails for additional assignments/ guidance.
