YEAR 10 DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY- YOU NOW NEED TO START YOUR COURSEWORK. The design context that has been set by the exam board is ‘Multifunctional Living’
I have set you a new assignment which is your coursework on google classroom. You will do this work on google slides. For this week’s work I would like you to look for images on the internet (pinterest is good) for Multifunctional products/ furniture/ tools. Basically any product that has more than one use. An example of this could be a step stool which is used normally as a stool but then folds to make a small set of steps. Another could be a bike tool which has screw drivers, spanners and socket sets. Kitchen equipment sometimes have different uses like a tin opener may have a bottle opener on it or other features. Modula furniture can often double up as occasional beds.
This is a really broad area to look into and you will later start to consider day to day living and how having a product or piece of furniture that has duel uses could be useful. I will set you to do a spider diagram about this next week.
I really hope you will find this interesting and start to think about the types of problems which you could solve by designing a new product. But for this week, copy and paste images on to slide 2 of the D&T COURSEWORK SLIDES on your Classroom. Each slide has a notes section which tells you what to do.
Attached is the D&T COURSEWORK CHECKLIST AND FEEDBACK 2020 and a sample of coursework- GCSE DT NEA Example Responce which you should take a look at to see the type of work you will have to do.

Here is last week’s task below
Week 5 of Multifunctional Living Coursework
Complete - Week 5 D&T Coursework Task on Classroom - on slide 6 of your Coursework slides - Investigation in to the work of others - Existing Products
The questions below should be copied on to slide 6 4 times with an image of a product next to each set of questions similar to the type of product you would like to design. Then answer the questions about each existing product.
You need to research products so that you can get inspiration from them, find their strengths and weaknesses and suggest improvements so that you can design a product which is better than already exists.
There is an example attached on classroom. Please look at this so you know what to do.

What impact does its production, use and disposal have on the environment? (explain)
What are the social and economic impacts of the product? (Use and interaction, trends, impact on others, Cost /Affordability and impact of this socially.
What are the strengths of the Product? (consider the design, build and suitability of the product)
What are the weaknesses of the Product? (consider the design, build and suitability of the product)
Possible improvements which could be made?
